How Pure Pet Food compares to other brands
Having tried several types of dog food over the years – from Butternut Box, Years to standard kibble and even raw frozen meals – I can confidently say Pure Pet Food offers something truly unique in the premium pet food space.
Pure vs Butternut Box
Butternut Box delivers freshly cooked meals that need to be kept frozen and defrosted before serving. They’re incredibly nutritious, but not always the most practical. Pure, on the other hand, comes in a dehydrated format – just add warm water and it’s ready in minutes. Perfect if you’re tight on freezer space or often on the go.
It’s also more affordable than Butternut Box, especially for larger dogs or if you opt for a partial feeding plan. What you give up in “freshness,” you gain back in convenience, shelf life, and flexibility.
Pure vs standard kibble
Compared to the average supermarket kibble, Pure is a massive step up. No artificial additives or mystery meat meal – just real chunks of meat, veg, and functional ingredients like prebiotics and omega-3s. My dog digests it far better, and his energy levels are through the roof.
Pure vs raw food
I’ve tried raw frozen food in the past too. It feels natural in theory, but in practice it’s a hassle. You need space in your freezer, constant planning, and careful hygiene. Pure offers a much simpler alternative – no risk of bacteria, no storage stress, but all the nutritional benefits of a fresh diet.
Are there any downsides?
No dog food is perfect – not even Pure. While I’m overall really impressed, there are a few things worth keeping in mind before you dive in.
First, the texture. Since it’s rehydrated with water, the result is a soft, slightly mushy consistency. My dog took to it straight away, but I can imagine some dogs might need a day or two to adjust.
Then there’s the smell. Personally, I don’t mind it – it’s a bit like a warm stew with meat and veg – but some owners might find it a bit strong, especially right after mixing it.
So, is Pure Pet Food worth it?
In my opinion – absolutely. Especially if your dog has a sensitive stomach, is a fussy eater, or if you simply want to feed something genuinely healthy without the freezer faff.
The quality of the ingredients, the careful preparation, and the clear health benefits I’ve seen in my own dog make it well worth a try. And because the subscription is totally flexible – pause or cancel any time – there’s no risk involved.
Still unsure? Just try the first box and see how your dog gets on. If you’ve got questions, feel free to drop me an email at info@dogwooff.com – I’d be happy to help!
